ISO
Intermediary Service Organization

WHAT IS AN ISO?

An ISO is known as an Intermediary Service Organization.  In an effort to support the principals of self-determination the role of the ISO is to help individuals with disabilities and their representatives to manage employer related tasks.

Individuals become common law employer when they choose to recruit, train, and manage their staff, as well as to develop and monitor their individual budget. The ISO is in place to handle the required reporting, tax withholding, payroll, as well as maintains an employee file and arranges for workers compensation insurance.

Working with an ISO gives you the choice and flexibility to hire your own staff.  The staff is hired by you and works for you.  You are the employer and are able to choose the wage that you believe your staff should be paid within your allotted budget. ISO services provide you with the flexibility and control needed when choosing someone to work for you.

With the choice and flexibility comes the responsibility of advertising, interviewing, and training the staff.  (A broker could help you with this process if you choose)  In order to hire and employ your own staff, there also is the role of paying your employees, keeping an employee file and making sure that all of the needed clearances, insurances and other paperwork is completed.  This will be the responsibility of the ISO.
