WHAT IS A SUPPORT BROKER?

  • A Person who has a strong commitment to self-directed services.
  • Embraces the values of self-determination.
  • Works for a person with a disability, chosen by the person and does not have an organizational allegiance.
  • Shares a common vision.
  • Someone who is a member of the local association of trained support brokers.
 
WHAT CAN A SUPPORT BROKER DO FOR YOU?
  • Provide you with a contract for the services that they will provide for you.
  • Facilitate planning meetings.
  • Work with you to develop and grow a circle of support.
  • Help you to create a Person Centered Plan.
  • Help interview, manage, train, and supervise your staff.
  • Help write a job description.
  • Arrange for training of your staff.
  • Help expand un-paid resources.
  • Help coordinate and navigate local resources.
  • Work with you to identify innovative ideas for support in areas such as: housing, employment, hobbies etc.
  • Be a member of your team, if you choose.
  • Be a link between you and other agencies such as DPW, section 8, payment agents, etc.
  • Advocate with you.
